Transformative Lent Course

The Transformative Diocesan Lent Course materials are presented so as to meet the very varied needs of parishes. There are extended quotations from the Transformative Study Session speakers, visual and musical examples, related biblical texts, as well as passages from other writers on some of the themes.

Leaders may choose from among these resources, to provide material for reflection and conversation in their groups. There are also suggested questions for discussion, which include both ideas-based and more experiential questions. They should be of use in ecumenical groups, groups that meet in small house gatherings, bigger meetings that break out into discussion cells and so on.

They contain a variety of options, therefore, and are being made available online as a simple Word document so that group leaders can customise the material to their own needs.

See www.london.anglican.org/Transformative to download the Lent Course materials.

We will parcel up your materials and have them waiting for you at reception if you let us know your requirements in advance. Singers looking for concert venues

A group of singers from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama are looking for opportunities to hold concerts in collaboration with London churches. The group performs a diversity of music styles including operatic arias, songs from the shows, English song and a mixture of duet and quartet pieces. Proceeds from concerts could be shared with the host church to help fundraising.

There is also scope for members of the group to be engaged for solo work.

For more information, contact Michael Mills by e: michael (Email: michael [at] millsmam.freeserve.co.uk).

How is a faith passed on?

You are invited to London Inter Faith Centre (125 Salusbury Road NW6 6RG) on Sunday 14 February 3-5pm (no charge) when the LIFC Researcher Grainne Clancy will share a presentation on her work with families across twelve religious traditions, on the ways a faith is passed on, implicitly and explicitly.

Grainne invites you to share your experiences and ideas – whether as a parent, youth worker, Sunday School teacher or out of general interest. Grainne`s thorough work with those of many religions has produced fascinating insights into how people see themselves religiously and their priorities for the next generation.

Doors open 2.30pm on Sunday 14 February 2010, and there will be a cup of tea afterwards at 5pm. RSVP if possible to the Administrator at info (Email: info [at] londoninterfaith.org.uk), marking the subject line “Faith In Transmission 14 February” or RSVP on 020 7604 3053.

Retreat on the Street

This Lent Church Urban Fund is launching ‘Retreat on the Street’, an activity that enables you to spend a day in the city with just 50p and a small wooden cross in your pocket. Freed from most material comforts, possessions, preoccupations and the busyness of work and life, there is the opportunity to take time out with God.

The purpose is to experience what is going on, observe the people and patterns of the city and to pray and reflect. You start and end the day at a local church, beginning with prayer and a briefing, and finishing with a light supper and time to reflect and share your experience with other participants.
