Peace, justice and the Olympics

This week the Olympic Truce Resolution was submitted to the UN General Assembly. All 193 member states cosponsored the Resolution, to promote the Olympic ideals to serve peace, friendship and understanding in the world and promote the ancient Greek tradition of the Olympic Truce.

As we look to the events of next summer, groups working for peace and justice are uniting so that the Games become a catalyst for long-term change. Find out more about bringing change in the area of human trafficking, and learn how faith groups are already working together to bring peace.

Exhibition on East End life seeks interviewees

Interact, a London-based interfaith charity based in Kentish Town, is looking for volunteers to be involved in interviews for a programme they’re currently running.

They are working with a group of young people aged between 16 and 25 who are taking part in a project called ‘Shared Roots in Faith‘, which aims to discover the combined heritage of the Islam, Christianity and Judaism in the East End of London.

They’re looking for people from all three faiths who have lived in the East End between 1950-1980 who would like to donate some of their time to be interviewed about their lives in the East End for an exhibition they’re putting together.

Is there anyone at your church who might fancy being interviewed for an hour or so who has lived in the East End at some point?

If anyone at your church who might be interested for an hour or so about their time in the East End, please email Lucy (Email: lucy [at] interact-uk.org.uk) for information.

This is a great chance to share your stories and get involved in the community.

Christians, Confidence and Christmas

Nativity sceneFed up with ‘political correctness gone mad’, Winterval and threats to the school nativity play? It may surprise you to know that this has little to do with out neighbours of other faiths.

I often hears stories where other faiths express dismay at apparent Christian diffidence. Indeed, The Christian Muslim Forum have reissued a statement debunking the nonsense of banning Christmas.

You can read more about Christmas in multi faith contexts and an opportunity for Christians in what ever context in the PEN blog.

Why not send your stories of celebrating confidently to me by e: pen (Email: pen [at] theology-centre.org).
